Created because of problems ... finding a WYSIWYG editor for Safari and OS X Dashboard widgets. Very simple, very light-weight, this is an excellent editor for places where simple editing is the name of the game (e.g., blog comments or on-the-fly documentation and feedback). Works with widgets, and allows multiple instances per page.

eArea is actually still alive, only the domain isn't - you can find it at

http://code.nth-iteration.ie/earea/

while the code is available at

http://sourceforge.net/projects/earea/files/

We are currently using it in a in-house project to enhance textareas in a clean way.

As a side note, I am also toying with a JavaScript "vi" at [a href="http://gpl.internetconnection.net/vi/" target="_blank">http://gpl.internetconnection.net/vi/] - it is also partially WYSIWYG, since it can apply some basic attributes (bold, italics, etc.)

Regards, and thanks a lot for making your resource available

@Federico - Thanks for the information. I have updated the listing.
