Civility in critiquing the ideas of others is no vice. Rudeness in defending your own ideas is no virtue.

Let's say you are at a gathering of people, and everybody wants everybody else to get to know them.  The leader has everybody make a large circle, with everybody holding hands, and says that everybody should call out their name at the same time.  She counts down... ONE... TWO... THREE... and everybody shouts their name out loud, except one pudgy, balding fellow who says nothing.  A moment later, he seems to become aware of his surroundings, and shouts "Edgar Frost".  Everybody laughs, and Edgar blushes.

But whose name does everybody remember from this exercise?  Of course, they remember Edgar Frost, since they couldn't even hear each other's names over the din in the original exercise, and since he managed to single himself out.

So ask yourself if you go to Lotusphere next week, visit the Product Showcase floor, and see a hundred or so product or version launches, will you remember any of them?
