BP103 - Make Rich Text Your Business - Using LotusScript
Thanks to all who attended. It was a great session, with a packed room and overflow room, and I appreciated all the positive feedback in the evaluations (and will take to heart the negative feedback as well, of course).
The presentation below is the one I gave, which may differ slightly from the one Lotus has, if they ever post it. The sample databases are here as well. They all work in Notes 6, which is how I showed them in the session, but the Midas parts should work as well in Notes 5. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to write to me at Ben@GeniiSoft.com.
If you were not able to be at Lotusphere, you missed a great show, but you shouldn't have to miss out on the presentation as well. As you may notice, the sample databases are laid out according to common business situations where rich text manipulation could help enhance the value of your business. Let me know if anything in my presentation here is not clear, and I'd be happy to go over it with you. I will also be presenting in Germany in February, and those presentations will be made available as soon as I finish giving them. Also,
to see some of the other presentations made by Penumbra Group members.
Please note that if you don't have the Midas Rich Text LSX and would like to try out the demos, you should
request an evaluation license
Business Situation #1) Valid Links
Business Problem: A company has thousands of links in documents created over a period of years, and no easy way to determine which are still valid.
Rich text solution: Use the ND6 rich text classes to follow links and create a report
Business Situation #2) Parsing Documents
Business Problem: A compound document needs to be broken up into its component parts and each made into separate documnt.
Rich text solution: Use the Midas classes to parse rich text and separate out the components
Business Situation #3) Text Templates ("Mail Merge")
Business Problem: A standard template of formatted information is prepared, and keywords or tags need to be found and replaced.
Rich text solution: Use R5 RenderToRTItem or ND6 FindAndReplace or the Midas classes to search and replace delimited tags
Business Situation #4) Cross Referencing
Business Problem: You have documents with large amounts of text and want to provide cross reference links to associated information, glossary terms and contacts.
Rich text solution: Use the Midas classes to perform automatic context cross-referencing
Business Situation #5) Purchase Orders
Business Problem: Need for dynamic structured data, such as line items on a purchase order.
Rich text solution: Use the Midas classes or ND6 classes to create and manipulate dynamic table.
Collaboration works! Thanks to all who collaborated on the session db, which was downloaded by over 800 people. Let me know if you have ideas for similar collaborations as the year goes on.
We don't stop at the limits of Notes, we start there.
