Genii Weblog

Introducing our new logo

After ten years in business, with customers all over the world and a thriving business, I decided Genii Software deserved a real logo, so I hired a design firm to work with us to develop an appropriate image based on who we are and what we do.  It was an interesting experience, and I am very pleased with the results.  Here is the official logo, as it will appear in print:

New Genii Software logo

and if you look up above, you will see the variation that I will use for the website and t-shirts, and that sort of item.

So, does this mean anything?  Is it significant?

The answer is probably "Yes" and "No".  Those of you who also visit vowe.net or OpenNTF, or even those who read this blog carefully, will notice that we have started a little, tiny bit of advertising.  Likewise, we will have a pedestal at Lotusphere and may be a bit more visible at trade shows, so that is a bit of a change.

On the other hand, we are not planning on turning into a nameless, faceless bureaucracy.  I'll still answer the phone most of the time.  I still prefer milkshakes to beer.  We will continue to bring out great products that meet or exceed your needs, and provide the best customer service we can.  I'll likely even still ramble on too long in these posts (darn, I'm doing it right now).

But now, we have a logo.  With any luck, you'll get used to it.

OK, I'll save you one, but it might have some pretty geeky sayings on it.

Congratulations to the new look.

I like the logo very much. I looks classy, has this certain "antique" look and yet is modern. The only thing I'd change (if it was my logo) would be the first "g". But then, it's your logo.

Thanks! The initial "g" is intentional, evoking the image of a Genie without getting too explicit. The funny thing is, I had anothre person tell me today, "I love the 'g', but not the circle at the end so much". That is why it is good that some decisions are not made by committee. Still, I am glad you like the logo.

Ben, That logo is freakin' cool. Very well done. The initial "g" and the circle graphic both evoke the genie type of image. The circle has a bit of an Egyptian look, imo.

I like it ben - the g on its own says Genii!

That's a very nice logo. You gonna print up some stickers for Lotusphere?

Thanks, everybody! Glad you like it.

Julian - No stickers, I don't think, although you never know. It might show up on a t-shirt.

Steve - That "g" is one of my favorite parts, and was added by the designer because she wanted a "genie" look and the alternatives she gave me with a lamp were favorites of my kids, but not of any adults I tried it on.

Very nice.

We're still struggling with a new design for OpenNTF, even tried to hire a design firm, but they seem to be too busy to be bothered nowadays :(.

New design for the logo or for the website? I presume you mean the latter. What are your goals? You have an interesting challenge because there are so many projects. My website design works well for an ISV with a limited number of services/products, and I have even shared it (the design) with a few others such as Granite Software, but I don't see it working so well for your website. Have you asked for help from the assembled hordes?
