So, will Exxon show any more foresight than GM?

It is hard not to wonder whether Exxon Mobil, and all the other large oil companies, will plow these profits into mastering and owning the inevitable technologies that will replace the oil business, such as solar, wind, geothermal and others, or whether they will make the mistake some large car companies have made of focusing on what is making money right now (e.g., SUVs) and then acting surprised when the world starts to pass them by.  I have no inside knowledge one way or another, but I can make guesses.
