The "Enchanted Broccoli Forest" didn't convince me either

Enchanted Broccoli Forest coverWhen I was much, much younger (although not a kid, since my daughter is that age now), I remember seeing a book my parents had called the "Enchanted Broccoli Forest".  Always interested in a good read, I picked it up, and was disappointed to find that it was a cookbook, and not a cookbook with Sloppy Joes and other good food, but rather a cookbok with vegetarian recipes.

Besides being disappointed, I was intrigued that there were grown-ups who thought this stuff would be convincing.  At the time, I was twenty, and I was quite sure that much of what grown-ups did was aimed at somehow "improving" us kids, not that I really understood why improvement was necessary.  But could any grown-up really believe that we would see this book, with its promise of enchantment and excitement, and say "ooohhh, can you make us some Marinated Sweet Potatoes with Broccoli"?

I was not convinced.  Of course, now I am in my forties, and I have a whole shelf of Moosewood cookbooks, and am always interested in another vegetarian recipe.  





 
So, it was with a certain sense of déjà vu that I followed a link from this post on Brian Jone's Open XML Formats blog to a site called The enchanted forest.  In Brian's words, 
It's a comic meant to show the story of the new Office 2007 user interface.
I won't ruin the fun by telling you too much, but here is a snippet from the multi-page comic:
