Exact measurements for images - a good idea?

In case you didn't see it (I was busy getting ready for a conference and never promoted it), I really do think this would tremendously useful, and seems long overdue:

In theory, this is a great idea. In practice, developers should really re-size the image in photo editing software before importing it. It makes for less overall file size.

@Chris - You make a good point about developers, but it ma be to much to ask of ordinary folks who are just pasting an image into a table, o of power-user/developers who don't necessarily have access to photo editing software. - Ben

@Ben - true, but I wonder how often this is a user requirement in apps? Have you seen it a lot?

@Chris - I always have this very odd perspective, and it is hard to know whether it is sharper or less sharp based on my experience. I have had a few different customers who have bought Midas because they had users who needed to adjust images to specific sizes, and couldn't through the interface. They would then add a programmatic interface using Midas. Whether it is a requirement "a lot", I have no way of knowing. On the other hand, the fact that there is an ability to adjust sizes at all (unfortunately without the ability to retain aspect ratio) argues that IBM also sees it as a requirement, but has implemented it a different way than I would. - Ben
