The fourth dog
In both business and in life, I am most intrigued by what the fourth dog sees that the other three don't. Entrepreneurs don't simply follow the crowd, they find a new way and the crowd follows them. I've had a lot of people over the years ask how to make a successful business selling software rather than services. I'm hardly an expert, but clearly I'm doing something right. My advice has always been to find the nastiest, most intractable problem around that nobody wants to touch and then solve it so elegantly that nobody wants to bother competing with you.

In other words, be the fourth dog.
